To walk around it you would start from Maldon follow the River Blackwater to Bradwell-on-Sea then along the North Sea coast to Burnham-on-Crouch and back along the River Crouch to South Woodham Ferrers, then back to Maldon by land! Welcome to the ancient Hundred in Eastern Essex. Welcome to the Dengie Hundred. Dengie 100 is a peninsula of land to the east of Chelmsford, Essex bounded by the North Sea to the east, The River Crouch to the south and the River Blackwater to the north. In the following years history was shaped by the surrounding sea, marshes and rich farmland with sea battles over oysters, agricultural progress, wars and religious revival.
